Ventures into Steam Punk

So, for a while now I've been thinking about this new / old design style called steam punk. Steam punk is sort of a blend of fantasy and science fiction that focuses on an alternative history where our current tech all works through Victorian era tech, so cars are steam powered and so is everything else. Basically, take any device throw a bunch of brass, hammered bronze and pipes and viola you have a steam punk device.

My venture began with a visit to the local goodwill where I spied a perfect candidate for some fun experimentation. The device I found was a LCD picture "ornament" that Target sold for about 30$ back in 2007. I picked it up for about 5$ and began tearing it apart. It took more effort then I'd hoped, someone seriously forgot the design for disassembly maxim.
